Episode Summary

In celebration of my 100th episode, join me for Part 3 in this six-part book series where I share insights from “The Well-Lived Life” by centenarian Gladys T. McGarey, M.D.

Episode Notes

Thank you for joining me last week for Part 2 of my Six-Part Book Chat series. In this episode, we dive into Part 3 of the book where Gladys writes that love is more powerful than any medicine you can take. I share personal stories about love from my own upbringing and the greatest unconditional love story ever told. I end the episode with Gladys’ Love Yourself Into Healing visualization practice to give space for love to trickle in.

My “head start” in life wasn’t in a wealthy or influential family. It was in love. When I experienced a family crisis while a freshman in college, I still knew that I was loved and valued. Even in feelings of loneliness, the love remained. I share the greatest love story ever told, Jesus, as a true model of unconditional love and our connection to Divine Source energy.

Gladys writes that the power of love is undervalued and overlooked. Love has guided my own life, toward self-forgiveness and in release of rage. To illustrate the vibration of love, I tell Gladys’ story about the Carlsbad Caves and how one small light can dispel the darkness. Love is what can breathe life into any emotionally helpless situation.

I share Gladys’ Love Yourself Into Healing visualization practice in honor of embracing the journey toward love. There is transformation when we can get quiet, listen, and be compassionate with ourselves. This is where we have dominion and power.

Listen in to learn more about the wisdom and insight Gladys has to share with us. Let love be the trickle to guide you along the journey of life. Check in with your heart. Do you feel able to give and receive love? Please reach out. I would love to hear from you.

Dana Frost  00:52

Hi, everyone. Welcome to the Vitally You podcast. I'm Dana Frost, your host coming to you this week from Miami for Episode Three in our six-part series on the well lived life by Dr. Gladys McGarry. Now, before we get started, I want to thank x 39 and x 49 strength, stamina and wellness patches for sponsoring this podcast week after week. And last week I attended the lifewave global conference. This is a company in global momentum and expansion with year over year 40% growth in sales. And I thought you might want to know that it is an incredible company. The latest country to open is South Korea. Do you know that lifewave produces 1,200,000 patches each day, they have the capacity to support cells of 1.2 billion annually.

Dana Frost  01:50

And by the end of 2024. They are poised to support sales of 2 billion year to date growth in the US alone is 100% Really amazing. lifewave holds more than 90 patents, and its products and technology are backed by more than 80 independent studies conducted at world class universities and research institutions. lifewave has been on Ink Magazine list of the fastest growing companies multiple times and continues its exponential growth. Okay, so what are these wellness patches, they enhance sports performance, they improve mental clarity. They improve skin appearance and the appearance of wrinkles for my skin. They've improved its radiance, they increase energy and vitality and they help you to recover from exercise faster. So, so much that I could say about the lifewave patches but I just wanted to give this you know a little touch point in terms of lifewave as a global company. Okay, we are ready to dive into Part Three entitled, love is the most powerful medicine. This I am sure is going to be my favorite topic and episode. This is from the heart of a doctor who is 102 years old and as had was raised in a family of physicians became a physician practice medicine for decades, and is continuing to share this message that love is more powerful than any other medicine you could take

Dana Frost  03:38

Now, the question for you is do you believe that? Have you experienced this to be true? Can you identify one person in your life who has demonstrated unconditional love? Remember last week we talked about that all of life needs to move and finding the trickle in the dam when we feel stuck. The first week when we talked about finding our juice or our lifeforce. Do you know how your lifeforce is activated? Do you know how your lifeforce is activated, it is activated through the power of love. If we feel unworthy of love activating our lifeforce will feel like an uphill climb. If we lack the power of love in our lives, we will struggle to activate our purpose. We will feel like we're always hitting roadblocks. Do you know why love animates our life force. Okay, so I have the privilege of growing up in a family where love was freely shown and demonstrated. From the moment I could analyze my family of origin and you've all been there. You've done that. For me that started when I was a teenager. I will say that from my teenage

Dana Frost  05:00

Ah years through my college years, well, few two years in my tutor, I don't first my sophomore junior year, my parents got back together. But you know, there was this important period in my life where my parents were in a multi year midlife crisis, and they separated for two to three years. And as a teenager, you know, because I hadn't felt that angst in my family. Until my teenage years, I started analyzing my family. And the one thing I can tell you, I could easily identify that I always felt loved by my parents, and by my family members, my aunt's my grandmother's, I didn't grow up with grandfather's they were they died, one when I was a baby.

Dana Frost  05:44

And one when I was I think six. And that was actually that grandfather was a step grandfather, so he was very distant from me. But so I always felt loved. And it's so powerful. But when I was in high school, and I started to learn about family dynamics, and family systems, and then again, in college, when I was seeing a counselor, this counselor particularly helped me understand the dynamics of my family. And at that time, as I mentioned, my parents were in a very serious crisis. They were separated and it looked like they were heading towards divorce, it truly rocked my world. And this is why as a college freshman, I sought out a counselor, I really needed help understanding my feelings and my experience. But one moment of particular clarity was that even in the midst of their crisis, and my own feeling of aloneness and abandonment, I knew that I was loved and valued. And so I can't imagine how it is for children who don't have that same sense of, you know, really feeling unconditional love as a child and I consider my husband to have been raised even as lovely as his parents are, they really did not, they weren't successful in instilling in him this idea of unconditional love.

Dana Frost  07:16

Love covers a multitude of sins. As I said, even in the midst of my parents crisis, and how that impacted me. I still felt loved. Love transforms everything it touches. Now, if you lacked love from your primary caregivers, or in your primary adult relationships, you really need to know about the greatest love story ever told. And I've never talked about this on this show. But that greatest love story ever told is the story of Jesus. And I'm not talking about a religion. I'm not even talking about Christianity, but I'm talking about a relationship with this God who came as a man, as a man Yes, He came as a man who came to Earth with the sole purpose of modeling unconditional love, and our connection to Divine Source energy.

Dana Frost  08:13

This is the fountain of love available for all people, regardless of your creed. And this energy of love says you are loved, period, the end you are loved. If humanity has taught us anything through the centuries, it is that there is a depravity in humanity that needs saving. And from my own experience, that powerful love is through the source of Jesus Christ. Now, humanity we can all agree is in a continual loop of war, and it's forced upon us by the governments of the war. No one is innocent. And I believe that love is the only motivation that can transform hatred into forgiveness. And Jesus is that energy on the planet Jesus came as this energy on the planet that shows us the way to forgiveness. Love is literally the only way to bring fractured communities and cultures into harmony. And our planet is littered, literally just spread out through the throughout the globe of people who have that light and are emanating that love the love and the energy of forgiveness. But if we're going to heal fractured communities, and if we're going to heal our own unworthiness or lack of feeling love, we begin at the micro level. This is where we have dominion and power. You and me loving ourselves that we cannot give something to someone else that we do not feel inside of ourselves. And if we were raised in a family where love was freely given like my family self love is easier, it comes naturally. There's that seed that was nurtured. The seed is in each one of us, but it was nurtured. And it was given food and water and sunshine.

Dana Frost  10:14

I really believe it gives us a head start in life. Some might say that being raised in a wealthy family or in a family that has influence in education is the Head Start. But I don't believe that because that wasn't true. For me. My Headstart was love. It wasn't education, and it wasn't wealth. And I can tell you traveling the globe, and living and interacting, whatever in my own country and other countries with people who have far less, no education, no wealth, no influence. The seed of love is so big in them, and is so expansive that I know that Headstart is love. So, you know, you may agree with me, you may say, you know that that's partially true or what's truer, but if you lacked love and your primary relationships, there is this cavern in your life that can only be filled with love. And Gladys writes about the power of love being underestimated in the medical setting. She says love is the undervalued and overlooked variable that can bring life into any medically hopeless situation.

Dana Frost  11:26

Okay, so because I work in Yes, and health conditions, but I would say most of my coaching work is done in the emotional realm. So I would say that love is what can breathe a life into any emotionally helpless situation. Hopeless, not helpless, hopeless. If a person feels unworthy, they will not have the willpower for self love. So I looked through the functional lens when I'm looking at a health situation, and we say food is medicine. And food is truly our medicine. But it's never just about the food or the perfect protocol. This is why it doesn't matter if you are working with a perfect protocol. I would say when you're working with a perfect protocol, and you have a compliant client, and yet healing feels out of reach. I want you to remember what Gladys said in chapter one. After decades of being in the healing profession, she had yet to discover the magic elixir or perfect smoothing ingredient. Because you know why? Because love is what animates the healing process. So I had a client. And she approached me and she wanted to work with me. She's, I think she's probably 10 years younger than me, but she wanted to work with me. And she wanted to learn how to fuel herself with healthy food, you know, how could she began to she had had a very successful career, and to building that successful career, she really let her own self care go in terms of how she feels herself. And we started to work together. And we quickly realized that she lacked the follow through.

Dana Frost  13:12

And she even realized this, it wasn't something I think I was reflecting back to her. But our conversations quickly became because she said I know how to cook. But we needed to have a different conversation because she just didn't follow through. It wasn't for lack of knowing how it was she didn't feel worthy to dedicate the time to prepare the food because it does take time, whether it's nurturing your body with healthy food, nurturing your body with healthy thoughts, nurturing your body with healthy movement, nurturing, nurturing your body with healthy relationships, you have to create time and space. And in order to create time and space, you have to consider yourself worthy of that. Because it means you're going to be saying no to other things.

Dana Frost  14:04

So first, we need to learn to deal with the feelings of unworthiness, and actually this client came to that conclusion. When we are unworthy, we have a deflated force of love in our life. So where do we begin if this is the situation, and this is why I mentioned the greatest love story ever told, it's the creation story. From the beginning, we need to go back to our roots back to the very beginning from the creation story from the beginning of time. Your life has value just because you are without any conditions zero conditions. Humans are the greatest story of creation. We are the only living beings created with the capacity to reason with a will and with dominion over the animal kingdom. They're intuitive animals we know the healing power of animals is absolutely amazing.

Dana Frost  15:00

The healing power from the plant world. Amazing. I believe that we are coming back as humans to the animal kingdom to the plant kingdom for healing because we are in self destructive mode and we need to go back to nature to remember our own nature. And why is this important? Because as humans we have the fingerprint of God in our human. This is the message of Jesus. It's not a religion, but it is a mirror for you to see your value and energy that says, You are bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh and love is the originator. Where does that energy where does our lifeforce energy come from? It comes from love you were literally born from the energy of love. Okay? There's always polarity. What is the polarity we see this on the earth and it's the opposing force of fear. We see it destruction, abuse, war, micro aggressions, and all out hatred towards fellow humans, micro aggressions towards ourselves, you know, why Hurt people hurt. I've talked about this before, and lack of value of human life. Pure lack of value and hurt, people are hurt. They don't value other human life. This is why finding your way to love is vitally important. It is the key to feeling younger, while growing older. It's not what we do to biohack and look like indestructible physical beings. No, no, no, no, the most powerful force is to be an instructable human being instructable love human being. I don't even know if that what I'm saying makes sense. But we look at Gladys McGarry. I just heard her on another podcast. And it was so wonderful to hear her talk about this power of love.

Dana Frost  17:05

Okay, so we are in this circle of creation. And I want you just to feel the vibration. I'm going to start breathing through my heart center, heart focus, breathing. This is Heart Math, you all know it, and you're in the circle of creation and that love radiates that seed of love, it radiates out to you. That vibration of love that flows to and from our heart center, which is where we emanate our lifeforce and because of humanity's tendency towards fear, love is that fertilizer that allows us forgiveness. It's the way that Jesus was showing us. Because you see, the historical context, from the beginning of time shows that there's both love and fear in humankind. And Jesus came to point us towards forgiveness to redeem fear, your fear and my fear. Sometimes, like what we're experiencing in the world today, we are tempted to believe that fear has one but this is a lie. We only need one small light of love to outshine fear. And I'm with you, I can tell you, my nervous system has been really rocked since October 7. And I'm needing to ground myself, I'm needing to connect to my own forcefield of love.

Dana Frost  18:32

And I'm needing to radiate that out. I'm needing to be this week, I had the opportunity to be in my this group that I'm in every two weeks called RISE where we come together. And we we support and lift one another up. And I needed that so much this week. You know, we only need the small, light, outshine fear. And Gladys writes about this. She tells us a story that when she was a child, she went to Carlsbad Caverns. And you know, you go deep Have any of you ever been in a cave. As a family, we've gone to different caves around the world. And it's, it's scary and it's exciting. And you go down deep and there's water and it gets really, really dark. So you can't see and you need lanterns you need head lanterns just to find your way. So they take Goddess's family down and they don't this was a long time ago. I don't even know they probably didn't have headlamps like we did with our family. They go down and the guide lights a match, and it illuminates the entire cavern. You only need one small light to dispel the darkness. It takes less love to drown out fear than it takes fear. Well fear cannot extinguish love. Love is always there. That seed of love in your heart. Even if you don't feel it, it's still there. Because it's the stamp of God in your life. That is that divine connection. You are literally

Dana Frost  20:00

divinity in your human, this is what Jesus showed us. So, fear has never been able to distinguish love. And let's go beyond Jesus we can think of Mary the mother of Jesus we can think of Mary Magdalene, we can think of Buddha Mohammed Gandhi, Mother Teresa Martin Luther King. Common to all of these spiritual leaders is the energy of love. This force of love that they ignited, destroyed religious extremism set colonized people, free ignited cultures to see their own root of racism, marked the untouchables with love and physical touch, compassion and care. That same a forcefield of love is still present among us today. Love will set you free to live your purpose, love will identify the trickle in the damn love lights up your path when it feels darkened. Love has guided my own life, the seed of love softened my heart towards my own self forgiveness and release of my rage. The seed of love opened up my heart towards forgiveness and my marriage crisis. Love sets us free. And let's just look at Gladys his words for this part three. Love is the most powerful medicine without love healing will be dampened. And I've said it before, but it bears repeating. I can place someone on the perfect protocol. But if there is self hatred, unworthiness, lack of forgiveness, the healing is only skin deep. And the symptoms or some variety of them will return. Your ally in identifying self love or unworthiness is your body it is your way finder. Let me say that again. Because I kind of stumbled over that your ally in identifying self love or unworthiness is your body, your body is your way finder, you have to connect to your own tissues.

Dana Frost  22:00

Your soul is embedded in this energy system that is your body, your mind, and your emotions, your energy force. And you have to talk to that system that you have. You have to feel physically where there's constriction where there's lack of love, you've got to find where there's tension and where there's flow, where there's tension, you want to soften and move away from it, where there's flow, you want to move towards it. This is true in our thoughts, we need to identify where are their self limiting beliefs that are have their roots in fear, we want to identify them, expose them for the lies that they are, smoke them out, if you will.

Dana Frost  22:40

And for that I use the Work of Byron Katie, the work it's called, not going to go into that on the podcast, but you can always hire me if you want to. You can reference her on YouTube, you can go to her website, you you know that's work I do with my clients, but we've got to identify them in our thoughts, identify them where they have become stuck through tension in our body and where they were we're stuck with our emotions on an energetic level, we need to identify where there is fear in our system. And then you begin to soften. You just begin to allow everything to soften and you allow love to come in. So where is it that you need to allow love into your life? Where can you send love out because if you are embolden with a forcefield of love, if your life has been set ablaze with love mind has, then you have a responsibility to send the love out. Okay, so I'm going to end with glasses. Practice loving yourself in to healing. First get quiet, and then allow a complaint to rise to the surface. It could be something physical, an ongoing medical issue, a short term injury or even an emotional issue or a relationship that isn't working out.

Dana Frost  24:03

Consider your complaint, and wait until an image emerges to encapsulate it don't overthink this, just that whatever comes come, the image may be moving or still it may be a thing a place a person. Once you have your image take a moment to really look at it. What shapes colors, textures sounds, arise. Ask the image what do you have to show me? What do you need? Is it offering information about your physical health, your mental health, your soul's journey your relationship? In some way your mind has offered you this image to show you something what is it? You may find one answer and you may find more than one and you I would add you may need to stay with this for a period of time. See your image wrapped in love held in the unconditional loving embrace of the entire universe. hear the angels singing once again, just as they did the day you were born, think the image and allow it to fade away. I can tell you in my own life, that I have so many instances where I had to have this conversation with my body. And I guess in this moment I'm feeling led to share when my shoulder was almost frozen, I had very, I lack a range of motion on my shoulder, I had a lot of pain, I couldn't lift things with my shoulder.

Dana Frost  25:30

And, you know, it required my own coaching. It required me finding a yoga, I had gone to physical therapist that didn't work, but through this conversation with my shoulder through working with my physical body through chi yoga, I was very evident to me that when I had my pacemaker implanted, and I felt so much fear, I was holding, I was bringing this left shoulder forward and I was holding and protecting that part of my body out of fear I had because it had become so embedded fear. So embedded in that shoulder, I had to take a year, you know, working with chi you and opening and softening and bringing the blood flow, the healing energy of my immune system, to that left shoulder, and continuing to softening around that story of fear from my health crisis. So that was my health crisis was 2011. And I was introduced to chi ute, I think in 2017. So you can see that our healing journey, everybody, it's a marathon. It's, it's a lifetime. It's a journey. It's not a one and done. It's not a perfect protocol. It's leaning in listening, hearing being tender, compassionate towards ourselves. Okay, so number five. Now it's time for a hug. Don't shy away from this. Even if you feel a bit silly. It's a transformative practice. Place your hands on opposite shoulders, cross your arms in front of your heart.

Dana Frost  27:11

Curl your shoulders and let your chin drop. As you do so, quit. Squeeze your hands and give yourself a good hug. Give yourself a strong hug as you would give anyone else in need. While you're hugging yourself, check in with your heart. Assess what is here today. How lovable how loveable do you feel? Do you feel lovable? And do you feel able to give love? Receive the answer without judgment? You can repeat this gesture, hugging yourself anytime you want to assess how flow love is flowing through you. Just remember that love is the antidote to fear. Find that trickle of love. Find somewhere where that energy of love is there in your life and embrace it. And by all means, I will tell you I have not done this healing work alone. I've had therapists, I've had friends, I've had communities. I've had modalities can you yoga, acupuncture, lifewave patches, light therapy. I've had so many modalities Oh, essential oils to help me on this journey. And you are not alone. So don't well, this is interesting.

Dana Frost  28:29

Part four is you're never truly alone. So I look forward to seeing you next week to talk more about the reality that you're never truly alone.
