Welcome to another solo episode of Vitally You®. Today, I open up about how I’ve made peace with the things that have happened in my life, and give advice on how you can start that journey, too. I’ve been candid about my past physical illnesses, including how I ended up with a pacemaker, but today I’m sharing more about the psycho-emotional and spiritual work that helped in ways that pharmaceutical medication cannot.
When it comes to living vitally, there’s no such thing as a quick fix. If you want to feel younger while growing older, it’s critical to make peace with your upbringing and examine emotional patterns. In today’s episode, I discuss how to go beyond medicating physical symptoms and instead look inward to heal yourself. I also talk about how therapy, energy work, Kaiut Yoga, and other modalities helped me come to terms with my past and move forward with love and compassion.

Dana Frost 00:52
Welcome everyone to the Vitally You® podcast, feeling younger, while growing older. Well, today is a solo episode. And I have to admit, it feels a little bit odd to me to be recording things that I want to say to you. But this is my first one. And I'm just going to do it and I'll learn from it, I have to give you the context. I love using aroma therapy. And anytime I feel a little bit nervous about something, it's one of the first things that I go to. And so I have this little Japanese, I think it's pronounced hivi, H-I-V-I, it is a match stick that's incense. And I have that going it's ylang-ylang, which is very soothing to the nervous system. So I am supporting myself with that, I thought you might appreciate that visual.
Dana Frost 01:45
And I'll tell you what, I wanted to come to you for a solo episode, because we're so new in this podcast journey together. And I'm always thinking about what's going to be something meaningful that you would want to hear about when it comes to this idea of feeling younger while growing older longevity. And let me start with this quote, to set the stage for our conversation today. To heal is to touch with love that which we previously touched with fear.
Dana Frost 02:15
This is a quote from Steven Levine, he was a poet and did a lot of work in terms of meditation and healing in the arena of death and dying. And one thing that I've learned in my own journey is that symptoms are manifestations of emotions, things that have gotten stuck in the emotional body. And I would love to know if that rings true for you, please feel free to put a comment in their review or send me a private message.
Dana Frost 02:47
When we think about feeling younger, growing older, we're really thinking about how do we feel better in six months, in a year, in five years, in 10 years? How do we want to feel in the future? Where are we today? And how do we want to feel in the future? Because I believe we can always improve our whether it's mental state, physical state, emotional state, or spiritual state, we can feel better.
Dana Frost 03:16
I think when it comes to the physical, which is what we tend to focus on in the Western world, many times we have a belief that we can't feel better, or we believe that genetics will take us down the road of whatever that looks like. And I really want to challenge you on that idea that you actually can feel better growing older. And everything you do today determines how you're going to feel tomorrow.
Dana Frost 03:45
Have you ever had the experience of you know whether you've had something to drink or you've had a lot of sugar, or you've eaten food that you don't normally eat, and you just wake up the next day and you don't feel well? Well, that's what happens. The body is so responsive that it's dynamic, and it responds to everything that we do is impacting that next now moment.
Dana Frost 04:11
You know, something that's interesting is that even when we look at the microbiome, the cells in your gut are turning over, I think it's every three days. Now I'm not looking at those statistics. But in my studies, I'm going by memory, I'm not using notes for this episode, I think it's every three days the cells in the gut turn over. And isn't that incredible how dynamic the body is? When we start to make small changes, the body really responds.
Dana Frost 04:38
So what I really want to talk to you about today is this idea that we have to make peace with the things that have happened in our life. So if we're having physical symptoms, and we're not feeling vitally ourselves or we're not experiencing the vitality that we want to experience, I really want to invite you to look at what is the stress that you feel? What are the emotions you feel on a regular basis?
Dana Frost 05:06
We know from the work of HeartMath that we want to experience all the feelings that are out there. And that just means you are a living, breathing human. And you are moving about in this world and you have the privilege of experiencing grief, elation, courage, compassion, generosity, depression, fear. We will experience all the different feelings, the ones that deplete us, and the ones that fuel us. But when we have seasons when we are experiencing primarily emotions that are depleting it down, regulates our immunity down regulates our physiology, and those patterns can get stuck in our tissues.
Dana Frost 05:52
The golden nugget of this message today is that there's not one pharmaceutical medication, there's not one chemical, there's no quick fix, not even my amazing LifeWave patches, nothing can fix the psycho emotional work or spiritual work that may be required in order for you to shift physiology. Can they support you so that you are stronger, so that you're able, you have the energy and the fortitude to take a look at the traumas or the disappointments, the stress that you may not recognize you have?
Dana Frost 06:32
All it takes to recognize it is to turn your eyes inward and say, I'm going to create space to see what's really going on here in terms of improving my vitality. And I'm going to look at the emotional patterns, I'm going to look at my mental patterns, my beliefs, to figure out so I want to tell you a story. When we were living in Brazil, and after we adopted, I think we were probably only maybe like eight months into the adoption of our two wonderful children.
Dana Frost 07:02
We were living in Brazil. So we have three biological children, for those of you who don't know me and don't know our story. And we adopted two beautiful Brazilian children, they were brother and sister through their mother. One was five at the time, and one was three. And it was a big lift for the family. We all were very committed to this, but it was exhausting. It was a big lift for me. And I started to have coughing fits, uncontrollable coughing fits, that I will tell you took me to the emergency room on several occasions.
Dana Frost 07:34
The only thing they could do, they couldn't find, there was no bacteria, there was nothing that they could find. And so they gave me pharmaceutical medication that just calms everything down. It was a sedative. And it did stop the coughing attacks. And I actually had a prescription for it that I had to use on multiple occasions because I would be in the middle of something and I would start coughing and I could not stop and it was really scary.
Dana Frost 08:00
And I remember my husband one night in the middle of the night, I think this was one of the moments we went to the hospital, he said, You have to have something. Like, you have to be deathly ill. And they could never find anything. And what I know in hindsight, is that I was feeling my nervous system was triggered from the stress. And I had a lot of conflicting feelings, my love for these two children were in conflict with some of the things that, you know, I had to do to like bring them into the family, and some of the stressors that we encountered.
Dana Frost 08:35
And that really triggered, you know, in my nervous system. I didn't know it at the time, but my nervous system was really out of sync. So you know, I started getting digestive issues, I had really bad heartburn. And that started like, I don't know, probably five years of taking Prilosec to stop what I thought was heartburn. You know, later I learned that I really had to look at the emotional patterns, I had to look at the stress and I don't want to go into all the details, but I eventually was able to heal myself. And you know, I no longer have coughing fits.
Dana Frost 09:14
And there were a couple of different things, one quite miraculous thing. When we're on a healing journey, we're gonna have angels or modalities that come into our life that really help us in a moment of deep need. And this coughing situation one of the modalities that came into my life through a friend, Jill Tupper, she is a life coach, a very dear friend of mine and she took me to one of her healing practitioners in Kansas City. I don't even remember his name. But I was having a coughing fit, I wasn't breathing normally and she said you need help.
Dana Frost 09:45
So she took me to this man, this practitioner, and he did cranial sacral therapy on me. And my coughing fits never came back. So he worked the nervous system. He worked on the spine. I don't know exactly how to describe it, it's very gentle head holding, and pulsations, very, very gentle on the head, that impact the whole spine. So it's working on the nervous system. It was really miraculous for me. My breathing returned to normal. And the coughing fits never returned. So we're gonna have these interventions that really help us.
Dana Frost 10:22
But I have to say, fast forward 10 years and I continue to feel this underlying stress. I continue to have these encounters that were very disruptive with my adoptive daughter. I definitely was, you know, I had fits of rage that were not helpful for her, for our family, for myself. They were very depleting, and my body eventually broke down. And yes, you know, the story, I had a pacemaker implanted. But I have to say, that healed the physical situation. Eventually, I really had to heal these emotional patterns.
Dana Frost 11:00
And I had to make peace in my relationship with my daughter and my relationship with myself. Because I have to say, my behavior, it impacted my family, it impacted me, it impacted my soul, and impacted my mindset. And there was no amount of Prilosec, no pacemaker, not even cranial sacral that helped a symptom I had that was really going to help me make peace with that stress. And so how did I do that?
Dana Frost 11:32
I really looked at my own upbringing, I sought the help of a therapist, I was doing spiritual work, energy work a lot of different things that I was where I was able to look at these patterns, and really never be triggered again. It's miraculous. But through the different modalities I used, I arrived at a point where I just was never emotionally negatively triggered. And I really did make peace.
Dana Frost 12:03
And with that particular situation, and I had done it before in my life, I had made peace with my upbringing. And we all, it doesn't matter what family you're raised in, everyone has some sort of trauma in their upbringing. And it's really important, it's vitally important if you're going to feel younger, while you grow older to make peace with your upbringing. So really today, I wanted to encourage you to make peace with your past.
Dana Frost 12:30
It is so, I'm just lifting my hands if you could see me right now, I am lifting my hands to the heavens in gratitude for all the people in my life, the healers in my life, the friends in my life, the modalities in my life, the guides, whatever you believe about a higher power, God, the Holy Spirit for me, my angels, my guides, who came on the scene at the right time, and helped me make peace in my heart with my emotions in my mindset, in my tissues with my past. And I'll tell you, it's set me free.
Dana Frost 13:06
So that I just can never judge another human being. I really am able to see each person with love through the lens of light, through the lens of possibility of what can be when we take the time to do the work and heal the traumas from our past. And it sets the body free. So you can feel younger, as you grow older. Kaiut Yoga has been one of those things that really helped me get some of these issues that were stuck in my tissues.
Dana Frost 13:36
The practice of Kaiut Yoga really helped me work some of that stuff out in my tissues, really amazing. The modalities that we have available to us, like getting out in nature, the communication between the trees and the different organic aspects that we find in nature really have healing capacity on our cells. Plant medicine, that's something I have not personally participated in. But I have clients and friends who have found plant medicine to be incredibly healing of trauma.
Dana Frost 14:10
But what I want to end here with is, if you haven't made peace with your past, there is no quick fix. You might be able to mask something, but you'll never, as you grow older, you're not going to be experiencing that vitality and feeling younger as you grow older. I am here to support you. Although this is an audio platform, I see you, I feel you, I care for you. I know that together we can.
Dana Frost 14:39
You do not want to grow older feeling more crusty, and more grumpy, and more rigid, and less resilient. That's not what you want. You want to feel younger growing older. So let's make a commitment together to that quote at the beginning. To heal is to touch with love that which we previously touched with fear. Let's make a commitment together that we will touch with love all the little crevices in our life that have that little spirit of fear. Let's infuse love into those spaces so that we can feel younger growing older.
